Delete your account and data

Use this page to delete your Observe First data or request deletion of your account. It applies to the Observe First app listed on Google Play under the developer S2 Arts Lab.

Where your data lives

Observe First is local-first. Your observations, zones, site map markers, harvest logs and settings are stored on your device. You only have an account if you chose Sign in with email in Settings. If you did, and turned on cloud backup, a copy of your journal is stored by S2 Arts Lab.

Delete data on your device

1. Optional: in the app, open Settings → Export / import → Download JSON to keep a copy.
2. If you are signed in, tap Settings → Account → Sign out.
3. The Android app opens Observe First through Chrome, so your journal is stored in Chrome's data for this site. Open Chrome → Settings → Site settings → All sites → observe-first.s2artslab.com and clear its stored data. Uninstalling the app alone may leave this data in Chrome.

Request account deletion (with or without the app)

1. Email s2artslab@gmail.com from the email address you signed in with.
2. Use the subject line: Observe First account deletion request.
3. Include your account email and say whether you want only your Observe First data deleted, or your whole S2 Arts Lab sign-in (which is shared with other S2 Arts Lab apps).
4. We will verify that the request comes from the account owner and then process it.

What we delete

Within 30 days of verifying your request, we delete:

• Cloud backups of your journal and their sync records (account email, user ID, device reference)
• Partner teaching submissions linked to your email, unless you ask us to keep a submission that is already published with your consent
• Any Groq API key you saved to your account
• If you ask for it: your S2 Arts Lab sign-in (email and authentication records)

What we may keep (and for how long)

• Security logs: limited technical logs may be kept for up to 90 days, then deleted or anonymized.
• Anonymized research metrics: if you opted in, practice metrics that never include observation text and cannot be linked to you may remain in aggregate form.
• Billing records: if you bought a plan on the website, payment processor records may be kept as required for tax, accounting or legal obligations (typically up to 7 years).
• Backups: deleted data may remain in backups for up to 30 days after deletion, then is purged.

Timeline

• We acknowledge deletion requests within 7 days.
• Verified account data is deleted within 30 days.
• Backup copies are purged within an additional 30 days.
